MSISDN
What is MSISDN?
MSISDN stands for Mobile Station International Subscriber Directory Number and is a unique identifier for a mobile subscriber on a mobile network. It is the phone number associated with a mobile phone and is used to route calls and text messages to the correct mobile device. MSISDN is the standard identifier used by mobile networks globally to identify a mobile subscriber and their device.
When a user subscribes to a mobile network, they are assigned a unique MSISDN. This number is then stored in the mobile network’s database and is used to identify the subscriber and their device when they make or receive calls or text messages. The MSISDN is also used by the network operator for billing purposes, as it enables them to keep track of the services used by each subscriber and calculate their charges accordingly.
In addition to being used for calling and texting, MSISDN can also be used for location-based services, such as emergency services or for mobile content delivery. This is because the MSISDN is linked to the subscriber’s device, and the mobile network can use this information to determine the subscriber’s location.
How does MSISDN work?
When a call or text message is made to a mobile device, the MSISDN is used to determine the correct device to route the call or message to. The mobile network’s database is used to look up the MSISDN and match it to the correct device, and the call or message is then sent to the device over the mobile network.
MSISDN is a critical component of the mobile network infrastructure, as it enables the network to identify each subscriber and their device and route calls and messages to the correct device. It also enables network operators to manage and maintain their mobile subscriber base, as they can use the MSISDN to keep track of which subscribers are using their network and what services they are using.
What is the format for MSISDN?
MSISDN numbers have different formats depending on the country and mobile network operator. However, in general, MSISDN numbers are comprised of 15 digits and are usually written in the format: “country code” + “network code” + “subscriber number”. For example, an MSISDN number in the United States might be written as +1 650-253-0000, where +1 is the country code, 650 is the network code, and 253-0000 is the subscriber number.
